Steelrising Review

The story of the game Steelrising takes place during the French campaign during the reign of Louis XIV, and the player controls a robotic character named Aegis, who is the personal bodyguard of Queen Antoinette. It was caused by the spread of evil robots. The idea sounds exciting, but how was the game?

Steel Rising is a Sulzborn x Metroidvania game

Steelrising is a Souslbourne game, so to speak, and has many characteristics of a metroid game in Vienna as well. The game is developed by Spiders and published by French Nacon. The game engine is called Silk Engine and it is their own engine. Fighting in the game is through the use of either light, medium or heavy weapons, and each type has its own advantages; Light weapons are quick to strike and cause damage that rises and temporarily hinders the enemy’s movement, medium weapons are fast and causes excellent damage, heavy weapons are slow but the damage is very large, and each weapon has a secondary use for it, for example, there is a hammer that turns into a very strong shotgun and chain It turns into a fire chain, and there are also weapons that use the properties of nature such as ice, fire and ice weapon. The latter was the most useful weapon for me against bosses because I was able to freeze and hit the enemy with a sledgehammer, but secondary weapons are limited and require chemical crystals.

As for the fight itself, there is no blocking button, but there are some weapons with a secondary feature such as blocking or replying (Alpari) and you can dodge behind the enemy as well with ease. The enemies vary from small to large in size, but there is a repetition in the design, so you find the same enemy design, but with different elements between the power of ice, electricity or fire. The main bosses in the game are very easy, especially if you use the snow weapon against them, and I did not find a boss that tired me much, and some of the normal enemies were more difficult than the big bosses.

The graphics of the game are beautiful, but it is hampered by graphic technical issues such as some skins that take time to load the graphic assets in addition to some technical problems that affect the gameplay itself.

The game makes you go to different areas in Paris and you can navigate through the areas by fast trolley navigation, and each area has main story missions, side missions and a main leader in it. The design of the stages suits the atmosphere of the game and makes you live the atmosphere of Paris at that period, but my problem is the roads on the map, as many times there is a locked door and you have to go from another road to open it and after you open it you discover that there is a better way than it, and the benefit of the road you opened quickly ends Especially the many shortcuts that are mostly useless... Some stages have a blurry area and you have to fight the little boss in order to unlock it for you.

The game is developed through the use of statues scattered on the map, and as in the Souls games, they are used to revive enemies on the map. The development in the game is very easy and does not have much complexity and this I liked a lot, and also weapons can be developed by obtaining resources while exploring the map and from enemies.

Steel Rising Not Polished Enough

The story is told through cinematic scenes and dialogues with the characters, and you can get side missions as well. In each stage there are places that ask you to get some tools in the story in order to return to them later and explore them, and this part I liked very much. In conclusion, I can say that Steelrising is an overly ambitious game, and this, in fact, led to a significant weakness in many of the basic features in the game, as the developers tried to add many elements in the game, which caused a weakness in the basic elements and a lack of refinement.
